Spring Runoff at Minards Pond

Pipkin watches the spring runoff rush past him towards the Connecticut River. Most of the ground around Minards Pond is brown and gray and covered in leaves, but this rock by the brook is covered in bright green moss, and nearby a hopeful fern pokes its way out from under the leaves. Pipkin, starved for grass, puts up with the spray (he is not fond of baths) and sits down by the moss to think about grass and dandelions. He remembers summer:

...mmmm...dandelions...
